Calculate the dry cyanuric acid mass
Product kg = liters x positive CYA increase in ppm / 1,000,000 / CYA purity fraction. For example, increasing 10,000 liters from 20 to 40 ppm requires 0.200 kg of pure cyanuric acid.
HASA Pool Conditioner is a documented dry cyanuric acid example. A liquid conditioner may contain a different chemical form and a different CYA-equivalent concentration, so its percentage cannot be inserted into this dry-mass formula.
Choose CYA with your chlorine plan
Use the requirements for your sanitizer, equipment and local pool-care rules. CYA changes how chlorine is managed; a stabilizer target should be considered with the free-chlorine target, not selected in isolation.
Stabilized chlorines such as dichlor and trichlor can contribute additional CYA. Include those products in ongoing water management so repeated chlorination does not become an unnoticed source of stabilizer.
Allow time before another addition
Follow the product's dissolution, application and retest instructions. A reading taken too early is not evidence that the original addition vanished. Adding another full dose can overshoot the target.
Add no stabilizer when CYA is already above your target. Lowering it usually requires partial water replacement. Check groundwater and safe drain limits for your pool before lowering the water.
Add, circulate, then retest
Follow the product label for application and mixing time, then retest before adding more. Keep chemicals separate: never mix chlorine with acid or other chemicals.
Common questions
Can stabilizer lower a high CYA reading?
No. Stabilizer raises CYA. Partial replacement with lower-CYA water reduces it; check your pool’s safe drain limits before lowering the water.
Why does my CYA test not show a small change?
Test resolution, sample handling and dissolution time limit what you can observe. Follow the kit and product instructions before deciding to add more.
